The last capital of the Incas was established in the region of Vilcabamba or also known as the region of the Antis, which was complicated and inaccessible for the warrior tribes who lived in the 17th century. The territory of Vilcabamba is located northwest of Cusco, in the province Convención, in the eastern part of the Andes; it has a chain of tops with eternal snow and high jungle mountains with constantly different climatologic circumstances; it is divided by by two deep canyon; the canyons of Apurímac and Willcamayu. Through both run very fast-flowing rivers that sculptured and still sculpture one of the most beautiful and spectacular sceneries in our Andean region.
This area has a great number of micro climes, landscape with snow-covered peaks of above 6000m / 19685f, passing by high plateaus before entering a beautiful cloudy forest in the high jungle.
This region was dominated by Manco Inca after the Western invasion; it includes several nucleuses and establishments constructed in a secret way; built to honor the Inca kings... and a complex network of Inka trails extended in the time of Manco Inca, Sayre Tupac Titu Cusi Yapanqui and Tupac Amaru I. They decided to create a Neo Imperial state, with the purpose of preserving all knowledge in religion and astronomy; with the same customs and traditions of the ancient Inca society.

We will leave early with our private transport heading northwest of Cusco. In the cozy town of Cachora we will meet with the porters who will accompany us during this unforgettable trip. Cachora (2850m / 9350f) is surrounded by mountains and the majestic snow-top padreyoc (5571m / 18278f). We will begin with discovering eucalyptus forests and small bushes known as queuñas. Capuliyoc (2800m / 9186f) is the place to view the magnificent glacier of the Padreyoc and the deepest part of the Apurimac canyon, where runs the mysterious Apurimac ‘river that talks'. Our campsite will be in the canyon, in a place called Chiquisca (1930m / 6332f).
Hiking time: 6 hours in a warm climate.
2nd day - Chiquisca - Playa Rosalina - Marampata - Choquequirao (1930/6332 - 2850/9350 - 3033/9951 metres/feet)

From there we will walk up through the changeable vegetation near the village of Marampata (2850m /9350f), from where we will have a great view over the archeologic complex of Choquequirao. The sunset is enigmatic because of the enchantment that this Vilcabamba region has and with a little luck we will be able to see the Condor flying, ‘the religious messenger of the Incas', that flies down from the mountains all the way to the complex of Choquequirao. Our campsite is on only 25 of the ruins and is called Choquequirao camping (2950m / 9678f).
