The situation of Machu Picchu, perched on a hilltop enclosed by a 400-meter cliff in a meander of the River Urubamba, could not be better chosen. Man and Nature have managed integration perfect in this work of the Inca people to the harmonious construction which makes it one of the most extraordinary architectural and archaeological monuments in the world.

Machu Picchu was known as The lost city of Incas by its scientific discoverer Hiram Bingham in 1911. Indeed, since the arrival of the Spaniards in South America to the XVI th century, the Citadel had been totally forgotten. In 1983, Machu Picchu was devoted to the World heritage of UNESCO, and in July 2007, it was declared one of the 7 Wonders of the world.

Machu Picchu is bathed in a mystery that archaeologists have not lighten up to now. The most likely hypothesis is that Machu Picchu was the religious capital of the Incas in the 15th century. On height, at the heart of the site, lies the solar clock which enabled the incas set seasons and plan the celebrations in honour of the Sun God and agriculture. Aqueducts and channels drove water, sacred element across the entire site, testimony to the wisdom and technical mastery of the Incas.
