Salkantay and Machu Picchu 6 Days

This hard trek combines the Salkantay-trek with the Classic Inca Trail, for the last 3 days follow the same route as the Classic Inca Trail. Therefore also for this trek it is necessary to book far in advance.
The river that slingers through the landscape and that is known by the Incas as Wilkamayu will lead us through a gigantic garden with an incredible amount of orchids until the majestic Inca ruins of Machu Picchu (2400m)... A historical and religious capital, an agricultural and astronomic center floating in the sky, hidden by clouds... Mystical and wonderful. For more information about Machu Picchu, click here.
We will also meet with the local farmer and his ancestral grounds, being an event of Andean life and its´ customs, traditions and clothes. After arriving in Huayllabamba, we will continue towards the famous Inca Trail which leads through forests and mountains with an incredible variety of flowers there.
Program
1st day - Cusco - Mollepata (Cruz Pata) - Soraypampa - Salkantay pampa
Transport from the hotel in Cusco to the town of Mollepata (3000m / 9843f), the place to meet with the group to walk the trail. We will go to the village of Cruz Pata (3400m / 11155f), to observe a magnificent valley, mountains and the most important tops, for example the Humantay (5217m / 17116f) and the Salkantay (6264m / 20551f). Our campsite will be at the foot of the mythical mountain Salkantay, the place known as Salkantay pampa (3900m / 12795f).
Transporting time: 4 hours.
Hiking time: 6 hours.
Moderate climate and cold during the night.

2nd day - Salkantay pampa - Salkantay pass - Sisay pampa
The morning is the best to start the highest climb of the trek, the Salkantay pass (5200m / 17060f), where we will have the presence of the magnificent mountain Salkantay and other mountains and beautiful scenery. These mountains are amongst others the Humantay, Tucarhuay and Soray; they take our breath and hold secrets of our ancestors... the Incas... After the climb we will descent to the next camping place, called Sisay pampa (3700m / 12139f).

3rd day - Sisay pampa - Canal del Inca - Wuayllabamba
Waking up amongst the mountains will give us emotional feelings, also accompanied by small streams that lead to the deepest points of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The trail is every time better and better conserved because of the restoration and the recovery of the archeologic traces from the part of the government. Wuayllabamba (3000m / 9843f) will be the place to get on the Classic Inca Trail and our camping place.

4th day - Wuayllabamba - Warmiwañusca - Pacaymayu
Early we will enjoy the fresh morning hiking through small tropical forests climbing the Warmiwañusca pass (4200m / 13780f), accompanied by a professional guide. After a short moment at the summit we will continue our walk down to our camping place Pacaymayu (3500m / 11483f).
Hiking time: 7 hours.

5th day - Pacaymayu - Runkurakay - Chaquicocha - Wiñayhuayna
During this day we will enjoy the different levels of the mountain and tropical forests of the high jungle ‘Yunga'. The Runkurakay pass (3900m / 12795f) is the place to observe the depth of the valley where the vegetation starts to beautify this section of the Inca Trail. Great attractive archeological sites where we will come are Sayacmarca (3600m / 11811f), Phuyupatamarca (3580m / 11745f) and finally Wiñayhuayna (2650m / 8694f), the place to camp.
Hiking time: 7 hours.

6th day - Wiñayhuayna - Machupicchu - Cusco
Early in the morning we will have the greatest moment of satisfaction at Inti Punku (2730m / 8957f); here observing the phenomenal attraction of the sunrise over Machu Picchu. This is an unforgettable and favourable moment to take advantage of the time you will have to be informed about the secret that the lost city of Machu Picchu offers us... The town of Aguas Calientes (2050m / 6726f), is the place where we will gather before taking the train back to Cusco.
Hiking time: 3 hours.

What one needs to bring!
Backpack, sleeping bag, clothing for warm and cold climate like a waterproof jacket, sweater, trekking shoes and trousers, polo's/ t-shirts, rain poncho, hat, sun block cream, insect repellent and disinfecting alcohol and gel, bottle of water and sterilizing tablet, fotocamera (wrapped in plastic bag), flash light and batteries, some snacks like chocolate bars and dry fruit, original passport, ´ISIC´-student card and extra money in soles.
