Ausangate Trek 4 Days

The mountain chain of the Ausangate is situated in the Cordillera Vilcanota in the department of Cusco. ITINERARY

1st Day: Cusco – Mallma – Singrena cocha

Our journey starts early in the morning by heading towards Mallma (3900/12795f), a town situated southeast of Cusco, where we will meet the rest of the team.

During our bus ride, we will pass several little Andean farms and will enjoy the nice view. In Mallma we will start hiking for approximately two hours towards our camping site at the shore of the Singrena cocha lagoon (4200m/13780f).

Transport time: 5 hours

Hiking time: 2 hours

2nd Day: Singrena cocha – Tarapata Pass – Añasñiyucpampa

The sunrise over the Cordillera Vilcanota is spectacular and offers a beautiful view of the glaciers and the lagoons around us. Although we are high up in the Andes, the region offers a great variety of flowers and plants, such as the Andean Cactus.

Furthermore, this area is the home of the camelid, the chinchillin, the condor and the puma. After having passed the Tarapata Pass (4600m/15092f) we will descend to the Añasñiyucpampa Valley (4200m/13780f), our camping place.

Hiking time: 7 hours

3rd Day: Añasñiyucpampa – Pupusayoc Pass – Pacchanta

The day starts with a walk towards the Pupusayoc Pass (4900m/16076f), from where we will have an impressive view of several mountains, such as the Callangati and the Ausangate.

Thereafter, we will descend to our camping site in the community of Pacchanta (4300m/14108f). In the afternoon, we will relax in the hot springs and at night, we will have a typical dinner of the region called Pachamanca.

Hiking time: 6 hours

4th Day: Pacchanta – Tinqui – Cusco

After breakfast, we will head for the manor of Tinqui (3850m/12631f). From here, we will take the bus back to Cusco.

Awareness-raising.

Did the four-day Inca tour with our guide Lazandro, and had a great time with the small group of five we had. Booked when we arrived in Cusco and paid $540 including credit card fees, though I believe pricing is more expensive when booking in advance/online. Enjoyed the small group experience and ability to go at your own pace (unlike some of the larger agencies that bring multiple waves of people). Food was great and the camping conditions were satisfactory, though everyone on the Inca Trail is subject to primitive pit toilets. Pacing of the tour was better than other groups who had to summit twice in a day. I recommend the agency, but with the one caveat that I wish they provided better boots or hiking apparel for their porters. As they are all required by law, some of the other agencies provide much better equipment for their porters, and I wish Xtreme Tourbulencia did the same. Overall, great experience and what I felt was a good value trek!

We went as a couple on the Inka trail for 4 days. I think we had one of the best trek experience we could have with Rene and Nestor as guides, Cesar, Mario, Papicho and all the others as porters and cooks. Thank you so much. We booked through ITEP agency in Cusco and everything went super well. Rene was very proactive, reliable and proficient. 5/5 for him and the team. Edit: quiero mas chupi! A couple of negative points for me: - Just know that this is a very busy trail, and the Machu Picchu is even busier - that's nothing to blame either on the company nor on the team - it seems that the team, most importantly the porters, are not so well paid, or at least it is unclear how much they earn. We tried to compensate this with tips, but it's just impossible to know if you're tipping right, and it would be much preferrable if the company was transparent about where the money goes.
